In parallel with the 71st anniversary of India’s Republic Day that fell on 26 January 2020, a brief commemorative ceremony was held in Jaffna at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) monument in Palaly on Sunday (26).
On behalf of the acting Chief Defence Staff & Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna together with the Consul General of the Indian High Commission in Jaffna, Mr. S Balachandran, placed floral wreaths and saluted their memory.
Soldiers of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) during the height of LTTE terrorism at the request of Sri Lanka arrived here to assist peace-keeping in the North and East.
