The Mapalana Agriculture Faculty of the University of Ruhuna in Matara area was converted into a Quarantine Centre (QC) following the increase of first and second contacts in the region.
Following guidelines given by health authorities and Major General Dammi Hewage, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division of the SFHQ-Central, the faculty was improvised to serve as a quarantine centre.
General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancement of the bed capacity and QCs in line with the sudden increase of close contacts around the country, instructed Major General Vikum Liyange , Commander, Security Forces - west to take prompt action for the conversion of this facility within a few days.
12 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 3(v) Gemunu Watch troops with Health authorities, and officials threw their weight behind realization of the project and made the QC available to authorities on Thursday (24) .
Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku, Commander, 613 Brigade closely supervised the troops until the completion of the task.
