Expertise of Moratuwa University Sought to Boost Army Technical Aspects

With the objective of boosting and exploring expertise consultations for further advancement of technical aspects, research and development of the Army that could go forward hand in hand with fast changing world-wide technologies, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army invited Prof. N.D. Gunawardena, Vice-Chancellor at University of Moratuwa and a team of academic experts and scholars to the Army Headquarters on Wednesday (22) for a cordial discussion.

The Commander of the Army after a warm welcome to all the scholars in the group outlined the aim of the discussion with special focus on the possibilities of harnessing their academia and technical expertise for further advancement of Army technical aspects in relation to the fields of IT, Drone techniques, Signals, Mapping projects, scientific research, engineering facets, preservation techniques, etc. "Your expertise on all aspects would further help us to meet with ever-changing technological advancements," he remarked.

The initial discussion, attended by Major General K.A.W. S Ratnayake ndu, Chief Signal Officer, Major General G.W.A Seneviratne USP psc, Director General Research Concept and Doctrine, Brigadier G.L.S.W Liyanage USP psc, Director Information Technology, Brigadier H.C.L Galappaththi RSP USP, Director, Research Analysis Proposals and Development Branch, Brigadier S.P Malawarage RSP USP IG, Commander, Artillery Brigade, Commanding Officers of 15 Sri Lanka Artillery, 10 Sri Lanka Signal Corps and 12 Sri Lanka Signal Corps laid the basis for a continued dialogue with those subject experts in future on the same lines before an overall strategic roadmap is designed for close cooperation and implementation.

At the conclusion of the cordial exchange of views and perspectives, the host, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army presented a special memento to Prof. N.D Gunawardena, Vice-Chancellor, University of Moratuwa, appreciative of his participation and contribution to the discussion along with his team.

A Pasquel, Dep of E & T Eng represented the University team.
