Expatriate Donor Awards Schols to Students in His Alma Mater

A textile-engineering professional, produced by the Buddangala Central College, situated in the general area of Padaviya, Sripura in the Wanni, extended his gratitude to his alma mater by awarding scholarships to 3 students of his college who are shining in higher studies during a brief ceremony at the college auditorium on Thursday (9).

The project coordinated by Brigadier J.B Galgamuwa (Retd) and sponsored by Dr Aruna Rathnayake of the UK based E-Textiles Ltd provided two scholarships to two college-produced university aspirants and one more to an undergraduate, following the Commerce stream studies in the University of Jaffna. Each student under the sponsorship programme will receive Rs 3000/= every month until they complete their university studies in a few years.

Major General B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division and Colonel P.S.K Sanjeewa, 621 Brigade Commander in close consultation with Brigadier J.B Galgamuwa (Retd), organized the awarding ceremony, in which the expatriate donor, Dr Aruna Rathnayake made an inspirational speech and recalled how he as a student underwent life-threatening experiences in the face of LTTE terrorism while he was learning in this College before 2007.

He also gratefully remembered unmatched services, rendered by the Army for defence of those threatened areas during the height of LTTE terrorist activities, enabling him and his College mates to continue their studies uninterrupted.

College Principal, teachers, Major General B. H. M. A Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Colonel P.S.K Sanjeewa, Brigade Commander, 621 Brigade, Commanding Officer 14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), Commanding Officer 17 (V) Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG), students and several civilians participated in the awarding event.
