Ex-Servicemen Pin 'Poppy' Flower on Army Chief

A group of representatives of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) this afternoon (19) pinned a Poppy flower on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu at the Commander’s office in parallel with the forthcoming Poppy Day that recollects memories of all fallen War Heroes in the wars.

Major General W.G.M.U.R Perera (Rtd) USP, Chairman, SLESA pinned the poppy flower on the Commander of the Army, symbolizing the commencement of this year’s anniversary in a few days.

The Commander of the Army, while making a contribution to the Poppy Till, made another monetary donation to the Poppy Fund. Soon after, the members of the SLESA presented a copy of the latest ‘Veteran Magazine’ to the Army.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage during the interaction had a cordial exchange of views with those representatives and inquired about their ongoing welfare projects for the benefit of all ex-servicemen.

Brigadier A.H Liyanage (Rtd), Chairman of the Poppy Committee, Lieutenant Colonel A.K Siyambalapitiya (Rtd) psc Lsc, Secretary of SLESA, Major P.K.C.S Kankanamge (Rtd) USP along with several other members of the Poppy Committee joined the occasion.

Poppy Day is commemorated every year on the second Sunday in the month of November across the world including all Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War in a bid to honour the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces who had laid their lives in the line of duty.
