Ex-Servicemen Offer Their Part to Disable Soldiers

RETIRED soldiers who once contributed to the war continue to give their share even after retirement by way of donations of artificial limbs to appreciate the dedication of soldiers who sacrificed limbs for the sake of country’s territorial integrity.

Sri Lanka Army Engineers’ Association (SLAEA) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association (SLEA), in one of such praiseworthy acts, organized a donation of over one hundred artificial limbs to War Heroes who became disable due to terrorist attacks during recent humanitarian operations.

A simple ceremony in this regard was held at the SLEA auditorium in Panagoda on 12th September morning with the participation of Senior Members of the SLEA and SLAEA including Patron of SLAEA Deshamanya General (Retd) Denis Perera and President SLEA General (Retd) Hamilton Wanasinghe.

SLAEA had coordinated the donation via the internet and found donors from abroad and here to purchase those artificial limbs for each War Hero.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who graced the event as Chief Guest addressing the gathering reiterated that these types of donations confirm that War Heroes who served the nation with sacrifice are not forgotten by ex-soldiers and such thoughts would help make their lives successful.

About 110 War Heroes received artificial limbs at this function.

Donors who contributed purchasing limbs were present to hand them over to respective recipients.

The Vice President of Sri Lanka Army Engineer’s Association Major General M.D.S. Chandrapala (Retd) said that their organization is ready to make such donations in the future and abut 350 donors already have come forward to offer their assistance in this regard.
