Establishment of Permanent Camps To be Completed Before Year's End – Commander

All ranks serving the Security Force Headquarters – Mullattivu (SFHQ -MLT) on Saturday (6) in their hundreds assembled at the SFHQ-MLT with a view to listening to their outgoing Army Chief, General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army who paid a visit.

Outlining and summarizing all what he as the Commander of the Army achieved during his tenure of office, General Jagath Jayasuriya said that establishment of permanent camps, using pre-fabricated technology will be complete soon before the end of this year, so that all the troops would be able to perform their duties with needed facilities in place and with much enthusiasm in peacetime.

Similarly, the troops, he added, would be provided adequate metal beds before the year’s end since the Army’s Sri Lanka Electrical Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) Regiment is in the process of producing those much – needed metal beds.

“Each and everyone of you serving the Army, now with some 200,000 troops in strength will thus get a  bed of your own before the end of the year as I have already implemented that scheme. I feel happy about it,” the Commander quipped.

In his address, the Commander further underlined the importance of maintaining the standards of the organization at all times without being subject to any sort of criticism. “Your loyalty to the organization is the driving force that takes it to the victory, like how all of us strived to defeat terrorism in the North several years ago. Your commitment with determination can weather any challenge and help you become a professional soldier,” General Jagath Jayasuriya highlighted.

Cataloguing the series of welfare programmes underway within the Army, the Commander pointed out that soldiers are the beneficiaries of those projects such as housing loans, construction of rehabilitation centres, wellness resorts, low-cost grocery services, medical facilities so on and so forth. All those particulars are found printed on the reverse of your salary slips for your information, the Commander reminded.

Major General L.B.R. Mark, Security Force Commander – Mullativue welcomed the visiting Commander on arrival at the SFHQ-MLT premises.

Senior officers serving all Divisions, Brigades and Units were present at the occasion.
