Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) Billiard and Snooker team after qualifying in all five rounds, emerged winners in the final championship round beating their rival, Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) on Thursday (30).
15 Regimental teams competed in the Inter Regiment Billiard and Snooker Tournament of the Army, organized by the Billiard and Snooker Committee of the Army at Panagoda.
The final score remained at 3-0 and the championship went to Sapper M.M Mubeen of the ESR while Lance Corporal J.M.D.G.D Bandara of Gemunu Watch (GW) clinched the Runner-up slot.
In addition, Sapper, M.M Mubeen and S.S Dinuruwan, both from the ESR respectively won the championship and runner-up trophies in the Single Billiard and Snooker Championship Tournament.
Billiard and Snooker received a boost in the past two years after the Army Billiard and Snooker Committee launched many initiatives in that direction on the instructions of the Commander of the Army.
