Engineer Troops Complete Renovation of Two More Irrigational Tanks

Renovation of two more irrigational tanks, entrusted to the Army by Mahaweli Authority under the “Vari Saubhagya” irrigation development project, incorporated in the Presidential policy statement, 'Saubhagye Dekma' was completed and formally vested back in the Mahaweli Authority.

Two renovation projects, named Monara Wewa and Ethawetuna Wewa in the Mahaweli- L zone in Welioya region were thus vested in the authorities after completion. Four more tank renovation projects, out of 10 tanks handed to the Army have been so far completed and vested back in the Mahaweli Authority.

Those renovation projects were carried out by 11 Field Sri Lanka Engineers under the command of Lt Colonel Krishantha Pussewela and these tank renovation projects were funded by the Mahaweli Authority.

Renovation and construction works were supervised by the Plant Engineer Brigade under the command of Brigadier Anurudda Senevirathna under the guidance of the Chief Field Engineer Major General Nihal Amarasekara and General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division Major General Chandana Wijayasundera.

General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak has directed the troops to undertake the project as one of the nation-building tasks.

Renovation of those two Monara Wewa and Ethawetuna Wewa irrigational tanks would benefit more than 300 acres of cultivable lands.
