The Engineer Division HQ of the Army at Mattegoda considering the need for vital medicines and drugs at the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama took steps to supply a consignment of those essentials with the support of Italy-based Sri Lankan expatriates on Friday (17 Feb).
The initiative, taken by Major General Lanka Amarapala, General Officer Commanding, Engineer Division included urgently-required advanced cancer treatment medicines, such as Oxaliplatin (100 mg), Cisplatin (50 mg) and Etoposide (100 mg)
Major General Lanka Amarapala symbolically handed over the consignment medicines to Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, Director, Apeksha Hospital Mahargama after taking stock to the hospital.
The Sri Lankan community in Italy, headed by Mr. Chaminda Ponnamperuma organized the stock. On behalf of the sponsor Mrs. Sandhya Ponnamperuma and Mr. Romesh Ponnamperuma the spouse and son of the donor attended the distribution, together with Colonel Mangala Balasooriya, Colonel Admin and Quartering of the Engineer Division.
