An educational exhibition that displayed aesthetic skills and artistic talents of students along with award of scholarships for over 1000 children for the first time in Kilinochchi got underway at an inaugural ceremony on 28 June.
The mega event organized in coordination with respective state agencies and Department of Education has been supported by all schools in the area and several schools from the south, following an initiative taken by Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN).
Major General Udaya Perera, Security Force Commander, Kilinochchi, as the chief guest of the inaugural occasion of the exhibition, joined a host of other invitees including Governor for Northern Province, provincial Directors of Education and students.
The move, aimed at promoting reconciliation and other talents of the students saw award of 1047 scholarships worth of Rs. 6, 3 million distributed to selected students from Kilinochchi area towards the end of the inauguration.
The scholarships have been sponsored by Sri Lanka Army (208) worth of Rs. 1,280,000, MAS holdings (833 worth of Rs. 50 million) and Mr Isthikar Hussen (01 scholarships worth of Rs. 25,300.00)
The two day exhibition drew more than 30,000 students and marked a milestone in the history among Kilinochchi students.
