Troops of the Security Forces Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in the past couple of days carried out myriad social service projects with the motive of further strengthening gestures of goodwill, harmony and reconciliation.
2 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops serving the 221 Brigade and 22 Division offered a lunch treat to the inmates at the ‘Karuna’ Elders’ Home at Linganagar, Trincomalee while troops of 15 Sri lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment of 224 Brigade distributed lunch packets among 56 students at Vijitha Vidyalaya in Gemunupura.
In the meantime, 9 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of 233 Brigade under 23 Division organized a medical clinic at Kadawathamaduwa temple in Welikanda in the final week of March. More than 450 civilians sought consultation from medical officers attending the clinic.
Meanwhile, 18 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops of 231 Brigade under 23 Division with the aim of motivating young people for sports, conducted an inter club volleyball tournament at Ariyanpathi area in Batticaloa.
In a similar project, the Mahabodhi Viharaya in Korea assisted conduct of a Medical camp at Seruwavila temple in Trincomalee. Troops of 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) commanded by 222 Brigade of 22 Division were instrumental in organizing this humanitarian event.
Troops of 24 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) under 233 Brigade of 23 Division conducted, took initiative in organizing a Shramadana campaign to clean up the area along Wadumunai Road at Welikanda on 22 March 2014.
On Tuesday (March 25) groups of soldiers belonging to 27 SLNG serving the 222 Brigade of 22 Division conducted a Shramadana campaign to clear the area of Sri Sennapichchi Amman Kovil premises in Echchalampattu.
Another groups of soldiers led by 231 Brigade of 23 Division organized a brief ceremony to donate school accessories to Ameer Ali Primary Vidyalaya in Eravur. The stock was sponsored by Mr Rifd Badurdin living in Galle area. It was held on Sunday (March 23).
With the aim of further promoting good understanding among religious communities, steps were taken by 22 Division to have a cordial meeting with all religious leaders from the area.
