Eastern Troops Gift Two More New Houses to the Homeless in Ampara

Giving more teeth to its ongoing house construction project for needy civilians in the East, the Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Channa Weerasuriya on Tuesday (19) as the Chief Guest handed over the keys of two more Army-built houses to beneficiaries during brief warming ceremonies in Ampara.

The two houses, constructed by 3 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 11 Sri Lanka National Guard troops under command to the 241 Brigade HQ were sponsored by civil organizations and businessmen in Ampara area. Engineering and technical expertise of the troops brought the construction of both houses to end well before the schduled timeframe as they volunteered their manpower with enthusiasm.

The needy families of Mr K Nagaraja of Periyaneelawanei and Mrs Kunarethanan Seetha who are living in Ampara area with children lead a hand-to-mouth life with no proper shelter when their plight was brought to the notice of the 24 Division HQ and the SFHQ-East.

Construction of the houses was undertaken by the troops under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 24 Division Major General Chaminda Lamahewa and both new houses were comprised of all facilities such as sitting area, dining room, bedrooms, washroom, kitchen, lavatory, etc. In addition , a stock of essential household items, electric appliances and furniture were also gifted to both families on the same inaugural warming ceremonies in Ampara.

General Officer Commanding 24 Division Major General Chaminda Lamahewa, Commander 241 Brigade Brigadier Chandra Abeykoon, Chief Coordinator Civil Affairs SFHQ-East, Civil Affairs Officers of 24 Division and 241 Brigade, Commanding Officers of 3 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 11 Sri Lanka National Guard and family members of the beneficiaries along with civilians were present at the ceremonies.
