Eastern Province Illuminates with Aloka Pooja Ampara

In a vibrant display of unity and cultural harmony, the historic “Mahindagamanaya” in Ampara was illuminated by the enchanting Eastern Poson Dawn - an event organized by the Government Agent’s office, government officials, representatives from the Army, other sister services, and the Police. This event, symbolized the significance of Poson and Mahindagamanaya, (arrival of the Mihindu Thero) bringing diverse communities together.

The Army contributed 20 beautifully decorated lanterns to adorn the surroundings of Ampara Township under the guidance of Major General W.L.A.C Perera RWP RSP USP, the General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division. The Eastern Poson Dawn commenced on 21 June 2024, captivating the hearts of all.

An Aloka Pooja ceremony was also held at the historic Deegawapiya Stupa on Poson Poya Day, marking the dawn of Eastern Poson Full Moon Poya Day. A grand exhibition of sacred hair relics of the Supreme Lord Buddha was inaugurated at the Mahawapiya Temple in Ampara, following the Eastern Poson Dawn tradition.

A Kiri Ahara Pooja ceremony was also held on 23 June 2024, under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division, involving devotees and military personnel.
