East Troops Launch Their Mobile Vaccination Fleet

Launching the Army-initiated mobile vaccination drive for elderly people above 60 years of age, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in society, troops of the Security Force Headquarters-East on Monday (23) began their mobile vaccination drive in the Eastern Province, covering districts of Ampara, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

Those vaccination vehicles, manned with nurses, medical assistants and data entry operators accordingly moved to respective District Secretariat areas to serve as recommended by state administrative authorities. A separate standby ambulance with a Medical Officer will monitor the process closely throughout the fleet's operations and would extend its service in the event of any emergency in a recipient after the jab.

Closely supervised and coordinated by the Commander, Security Forces-East, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, the project is actively implemented by respective 22, 23 and 24 Divisions' General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers in close cooperation with Grama Niladari (state officials), PHIs, MOH offices and other relevant sections in remote areas.

This mobile vaccination service saw its birth as a concept of General Shavendra Silva, Head of National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

This programme will continue to be operational throughout the province within next few days and special vehicles with medical teams of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) will accordingly administer the vaccine visiting doorsteps of those aged and the sick.
