Troops of the 12 Sri Lanka National Guard of 232 Infantry Brigade of the 23 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - East considering economic hardships of poverty-stricken families and students in Iralkulam launched a donation project with sponsors and generous troops on 23 September at the Government Mixed School, Iralkulam.
Accordingly, 50 packs of dry ration each worth Rs 7600/= were distributed among 50 low-income families, resident in Iralkulam area of Batticaloa district and sets of school accessory worth Rs. 200,000/= distributed among the 41 children studying at Government's Mixed School, Iralkulam, and 17 children studying at Kannagi School, Periyawadduwan.
Major B.M.C Wanninayake, Commanding Officer, 12 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (12 SLNG) initiated the programme under the guidance of Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division with the blessings of Commander, Security Forces - East.
This was made possible with generous patronage, offered by Mr. Priyantha Wijesinghe, Mr. Dushan Jayawardhana and 12 SLNG troops.
Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, Security Forces - East graced the occasion as the chief guest. General Officer Commanding, the 23 Infantry Division, Civil Affairs Officer of Security Force Headquarters - East, Civil Affairs Officer of 232 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, the principal of the school, and beneficiaries took part in the event.
