Troops of the 22 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - East in close collaboration with officials of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) conducted a Tsunami Disaster Prevention Exercise in the general area of Kuchchaweli in order to alert the community in the event of any repetition of Tsunami situation in the area on 04 October 2023.
It was carried out in the An-Noor Muslim College Kuchchaweli with a total of 1,073 individuals, including 700 civilians, 353 students and 20 teachers from An-noor Muslim College. All of them actively took part in the preparedness exercise. During the Exercise, every participant was instructed about the immediate evacuation procedure that should be followed in the event of a Tsunami disaster.
Brigadier K.K.S Perakum RWP RSP, Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division, and the Exercise was organized by the Commanding Officer, 20 Gajaba Regiment with coordination of Sri Lanka Navy, STF officers, Police officers, several stakeholders from World Vision, Children's Fund, Petroleum Cooperation, Red Cross, Kuchchaveli DS Division and Disaster Management Centre - Trincomalee.
