East Commander Meets Civil Leaders in Batticaloa

With the objective of further enhancing bonds of communal harmony and co-existence, Major General Aruna Jayasekera, Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E) recently attended a meeting of religious heads, community leaders and intellectuals, organized by Mr. S Mamangaraja, Chairman of the Civil Society Batticaloa who also sought assistance to establish a forum for promotion of goodwill and understanding.

The meeting at Batticaloa Bishop's House was attended by a gathering of more than 20 invitees, co-presided by Bishop of Batticaloa, Rt Rev. Dr. Joseph Ponniah and the Commander, SF- E at the request of the organizers.

The forum in general focused on social and other pertinent matters of importance to the general public in those respective areas. Several attendees spelt out their concerns over the widely spreading drug menace in the area during the meeting and underlined the adoption of new measures to curb it. Commander, 231 Brigade, Colonel Mihindu Perera, Colonel Thilak Ranasinghe of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), Lieutenant Colonel Sudath Samarakoon of the SFHQ-E, Dr. Sudarshan of Agriculture Faculty - Eastern University were also among those who attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Major General Aruna Jayasekera on Monday (7) paid a courtesy call on the new Governor, Eastern Province, Mr. M.L.A.M Hizbullah at the Governor’s Secretariat in Trincomalee and extended his greetings before he educated him on the role of the SFHQ-E and ongoing development projects.

The Commander presented a memento to the Governor towards the end of the interaction. The Commander, SF-E was accompanied by Major General Nevil Weerasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division and a few other Senior Officers.latest Nike release | NIKE
