East Commander Conducts Familiarization Visits

Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E) during 21-22 March conducted familiarization visits in order to inquire into the well-being of the troops in the 23 Infantry Division and its under command formations.

On Tuesday (Mar 21), he visited the 232 Infantry Brigade located at Tharavikulam and was warmly welcomed by Major General Shewanth Kulathunga, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 23 Infantry Division and Colonel Asitha Pushpakumara, Commander of the 232 Infantry Brigade.

After, a comprehensive briefing on security and administration matters of the Brigade area of responsibility, the Commander, 232 Infantry Brigade presented a special memento to the East Commander. The Commander, SF-E also visited Thoppigala Heritage Park and the iconic landmark and the monument. Moreover, he visited the Headquarters 12 Sri Lanka National Guard as the last visit of the day.

The next day (Mar 22), the chief guest visited 9 Sri Lanka Artillery at Sinhapura and 6 Gajaba Regiment at Nawalladi, where the Commanding Officers of both battalions received the visiting Senior Officer. At both entrances, he was saluted with Guard Turnouts by the troops and the chief guest planted mango saplings in both compounds. He posed for a few group photographs with the troops before he penned some complimentary notes in their visitors’ books.

GOC, 23 Infantry Division, Brigade Commanders of 232 and 233 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the series of visits.
