The Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) offered their share to the commemoration of annual Vesak festival by organizing a mammoth Vesak zone in Welikanda on Batticaloa - Polonnaruwa main road during May 3 - 4.
Arrangements, organized on the directions of Major General N.J Walgama, Commander, SFHQ - E, exhibited Vesak decorations and lanterns in this special zone which was visited by more than 5000 people on the first day of the opening.
The Vesak zone comprises free eateries (Dansel), lanterns and mini pandols and other colourful decorations. Major General Walgama as the Chief Guest opened the free eatery and admired the decorations that had been crafted by Army personnel for display.
In the meantime, the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) organized its Vesak Zone at Muththukumaru grounds, Diyatalawa on the directions of Major General Sumedha Perera, Commander, SFHQ - C.
The Vesak zone, conducted an Osu Pan (herbal drinks) Dansela, distribution of cooked gram among civilians, display of Vesak lanterns and decorations, etc with the active support of the formations under the SFHQ - C.
Sri Lanka Air Force and Special Task Force also joined Army personnel and displayed colourful Vesak lanterns in the Vesak zone.
The highlight of the Vesak zone was the Bhakthi Gee (devotional songs) concert, conducted jointly by Army personnel and school children in the area.
Major General Perera visited the Vesak zone accompanied by senior officers, state officials and several community leaders in the area before the devotional song concert got underway.
