East Based Troops Render More Community Services


221, 232, 241, 233, 224 and 222 Brigades serving under 22, 23, 24 Divisions of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in the past week, went ahead with a number of community projects for the benefit of people, living in Trincomalee, Taravikulam, Akkaraipattuwa, Dimbulagala, Kadiraweli and Ichchalampattuwa areas.   

In order to help improve developing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge of students in Trincomalee zone, the Army serving the 221 Brigade coordinated the donation of a few brand-new computers were handed over to computer laboratory to the Mihindupura Vidyalaya, Trincomalee.

With the financial support of ‘Nawa Arunalu’ project of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Jayawardanapura, the new computers were handed over on Saturday (15).

The donation was organized under the coordination of 221 Brigade under Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E). Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E as the Chief Guest, attended the occasion.

On Monday (10), with the financial support of ESCO Institute, troops serving the 232 Brigade distributed musical instruments and books, worth about Rs 83,810/= to the Ganapathi Vidyalaya, Pothdukachchena.

Meanwhile, 241 Brigade, under the direction of General Officer Commanding 24 Division in Akkaraipattuwa area organized the national day celebration on Feb 4. Many more religious activities were also conducted by troops on account of the national day. Members of the Maha Sangha, and a large gathering of attendees participated in the ceremony.

Two Shramadana campaigns at Rankethgama pre-school areas in Dimbulagala and Sembhanachchi Kovil at Kalladi were conducted by 3 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corp (SLAWC) and 27 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) during two separate days. 

Meanwhile, 3 SLNG under 233 Brigade launched a programme of issuing driving licenses for 27 selected unemployed youth in Kadiraveliyan area on Feb 7. The programme was organized under the direction of 233 Brigade Commander. Senior officers and civilians attended the occasion.

Expanding community welfare projects further, the troops serving 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) under 224 Brigade conducted an awareness programme on ‘Child Abuses’, at Vingyanagar Maha Vidyalaya on 3 Feb. Army personnel and civilians attended the programme.
