East Based Troops Interact with Different Community Projects


Troops serving 18 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) under 231 Brigade, Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment of 224 Brigade and the 222 Brigade of the 22 and 23 Divisions of the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ - E) provided multifaceted community support to civilians in respective areas in the past week.

Inmates at ‘Athisi’ Children’s Home in the heart of Batticaloa town were recently entertained to a hearty lunch by the troops of 18 Battalion SLSR troops, stationed in Batticaloa area as one more community project of the 231 Brigade on the instructions of its Brigade Commander.  

On the same day, 12 Battalion Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment under 231 Brigade of 23 Division under the SFHQ – E conducted a Shramadana campaign at Saraswathi School at Kaluwankeni, Batticoloa and assisted the school by repairing damaged roofs of different class rooms.

Similarly, 5 Battalion Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment troops under 224 Brigade of 22 Division under the SFHQ – E under a reconciliation programme facilitated a group of youth from Kegalle to interact with youngsters residing in Kilaweddi - Muttur area for five days. The inauguration of the programme took place at Kilaweddi school in the presence of several invitees, including some Army personnel. On the inaugural day, Army troops provided lunch to all gathered at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, by providing transport facilities to members of the church choir at Trincomalee China Bay church which held its annual feast, the Army troops of the 224 Brigade showed their goodwill.    
       
In the meantime, troops of the 222 Brigade of 22 Division under the SFHQ – E organized a donation of essential school accessories worth of Rs. 100,000/= among students at Agbogama Primary School, Agbopura, Waddukachchiya Muslim Primary School and Agbogama Peraru Muslim School on 30 June.  Mr. Mohammed Rizly from Galle sponsored the purchase of those school items.
