East-based Troops Continue with Their Community-Oriented Projects

East-based troops serving in separate Brigades and Divisions under the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) organized several social service and community-oriented projects that included a donation of school items and dry ration packs and a construction project in the past few days.

Troops of the 23 Division coordinated a donation programme, sponsored by the Foundation of Goodness (Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama) where a total of 68 school children received each Rs 4500.00 worth gift packs, including exercise books, school shoes, uniform materials, school bags, pastels, water bottles and lunch boxes.

The programme got underway as a result of an initiative taken by Colonel P. N. Liyanage and Lieutenant Colonel H. M. L. K. Amunugama, together with members of Foundation of Goodness, chaired by Mr Kushil Gunasekera.

Several senior Army officers, members of the Foundation of Goodness, parents together with their children were present at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, troops of the 241 Brigade serving under the 24  Division laid the foundation stone to erect a fence around Akkaraipattu temple  during a brief event, held at the location on Thursday ( 17) since intruders including wild animals frequent the area.

Dr. Rajeev Vithanage and Dr. Kushan Athukorala have volunteered to sponsor the construction project while the manpower for the construction is provided by the troops of the 241 Brigade in the area.

In the meantime, troops of the 6 Gajaba Regiment , 17  Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 3 Sri Lanka National Guard serving under  the 233 Brigade of the 23 Division organized  distribution of dry rations and school accessories among 200 students of under-privileged  families living in Nawaladi, Vakarei and Panichchankerni on Sunday (20) at three different locations.

Those families and children assembled at Sri Bodhirajaramamaya - Mailankarachchi, Primary School at  Kandakadu  and Vakarei Maha Vidyalaya received those school accessories and relief packs, gifted by Dilmah Company.
