As in past years, it was indeed heartening to see the keen and close rivalry between the Regimental Drill Squads during this year's competition too. This was without doubt, due to the extreme dedication and commitment shown by all squads, who prior to the competition had gone through a long and strenuous period of training with one aim in mind. And that was to show their unfailing talents and give their best in the competition.
The Drill squads of the Sri Lanka National Guard, Regiment of Artillery, Regiment of Engineers and the Gajaba Regiment who won the first four places in finals marked their excellence at Friday's display supported by a team of Sri Lanka Army Women Corps (SLAWC). The SLAWC who were also the winners of the female event afterwards jointly staged a colourful display with the Drill Instructors during the final spectacle.
The distribution of certificate and awards commenced with the award of colours to the winners of the Inter Regiment Band Competition. The Gajaba Regiment carried away the Championship to be followed by runners-up, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the Regiment of Artillery respectively.
The Championship in the Drill competition was carried away by the Sri Lanka National Guard but the women's category was snatched by second drill squad of the Sri Lanka Army Women\'s Corps. Artillery Regiment and Engineers Regiment grabbed respective second and third places.
The pennant for the Best Drill Squad of the Inter Regiment Drill Competition for the year 2005 was awarded to the Sri Lanka National Guard. Brigadier V.K.B. Weerakoon, Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka National Guard on behalf of his soldiers of the Regiment received the pennant from the Chief Guest.
