Double Delight for Army SC in Jaffna


The Army football team created history by winning both the Cargills Food City FA Cup and the Champions of Champions trophy beating the DCL champs Air Force on penalties to become champs of champions of champions in front of more than 10,000 football fans in Jaffna. Both Air Force and Army played entertaining soccer but none of their forwards managed to find the net.

The match ended in a scoreless draw and referee Prashanth Rajalcrishna applied the penalty tie breaker where both keepers saved one each but at the end of the day Army won by S goals to 4 to clinch the championship.

President of FFSL Ranjith Rodrigo together with Senior DIG Police Pujitha Jayasundera presented the Champions of Champions trophy to Army captain Bandara Warakagoda in the presence of Samual Neshakumar, Business Development Manager of Cargills, DIG Jaffna Rohan Dias, FFSL VP R. Puvinenthran, FFSL Secretary and asst secretary Upali Hewage and Rahula Siriwardena.
