An Army initiative, taken by the officiating Brigade Commander, 532 Brigade under the 53 Division enabled the free distribution of school accessories and educational instruments among 315 students of low-income families studying at Mawanagama Maha Vidyalaya in Dehiattakandiya on Thursday (16).
The 'Yuthukama' charity organization and several philanthropists at the request of the Officiating Brigade Commander, 532 Brigade sponsored the project through which each student received books, pens, pencils, stationary, writing books, etc to the value of Rs. 1,500.00 each and the project cost Rs 472,500.00 for those philanthropists and the 'Yuthukama' organization.
Commander, 1 Corps, Major General Krishantha Gnanaratne graced the event as the Chief Guest for distribution of those incentives at the invitation of officiating Brigade Commander - 532 Brigade Colonel S.P Wickramasekara. Moreover, the Zonal Education Director, parents of students, 532 Brigade troops and civilians participated in the event as invitees, together with the Principal and teachers.
The aim of the programme was to help upgrade the education of underprivileged school children in the area and promote harmony and bonds of goodwill between troops and civilians in the area.
