District Ayurveda Hospital in Mannar Converted as an ICC for COVID-19 Patients

As per instructions of the Head, NOCPCO, the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Hemantha Bandara with the support of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Division, Major General Darshana Wijesekera took steps to convert the Mannar District Ayurveda Hospital to serve as an Intermediate Care Center (ICC) of 50 beds and handed it over to health authorities in Mannar on Thursday (23).

The financial support for the renovation has been provided by State Ministry of Indigenous Medicine while technical and manpower support was provided by 54 Division troops. Regional Director of Health Services, General Officer Commanding, Commander 543 Brigade, Senior Officers of the 54 Division and Secretary to Indigenous Drugs and Child Care Services Ministry of Health in the Northern Province, Additional District Secretary for Mannar, together with other government officials attended the occasion.

General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Hemantha Bandara, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni and Major General Darshana Wijesekera, General Officer Commanding - 54 Division to take prompt action for the conversion of this centre for an ICC within a few days.
