Disaster Mitigation Plans Evaluated during Meeting at SFHQ-East

A meeting with the officials of the Disaster Management Centre and respective authorities in the Eastern Province got underway on Thursday (23) at the Security Force Headquarters-East in order to assess preparations for emergency disasters that can be expected with developing adverse weather conditions.

Organized under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces-East, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, the discussion focused on the progress of preparation processes, related to the upcoming North-East monsoon season and associated responsibilities when engaging in disaster mitigation and relief operations.

Moreover, the meeting highlighted the importance of stimulating an integrated and effective disaster mitigation process in partnership with regional Disaster Management Centers and members of the Security Forces in the area. At the same time, the discussion also evaluated mechanisms in place to nab illegal activities, such as sand-mining, tree-felling, etc which cause a bigger impact on the environment.

Brigadier General Staff Security Force Headquarters East, Colonel General Staff of 22 and 24 Divisions, the Assistant Directors of Disaster Management Centres in Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa and Staff Officers of the SFHQ-East attended the discussion.
