Directorate of IT Makes Great Strides Introducing New Applications in 'Finger Swift 2023' Project

To keep abreast of fast growing cyber technology and varying platforms, the Army's Directorate of Information Technology (IT) on Friday (22 Dec) unveiled its latest, demonstration of novel applications, ‘Finger Swift 2023’ programme at the Army HQ in the presence of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The "Finger Swift 2023" serves as a comprehensive demonstrative platform, meticulously designed to showcase the breadth and depth of innovative IT software development solutions and diverse IT applications, conceived and subtly developed by dedicated Officers at the Directorate of Information Technology in the Sri Lanka Army.

At first, an attractive video clip screened the current IT status of the Army before the Chief Signal Officer and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General K.A.W.S Ratnayake ndu, enlightened the audience on the project during the welcome speech.

Soon after, using informative video clips, the newly-designed four IT applications were unveiled in front of the gathering, namely, the Army Digital Corresponding Platform (ADCP - the newest extension of the Army Daily Mail System), Workshop Management System for the Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Weapons and Troops Transport Authority Management System and the Army Digital Event Calendar.

Subsequently, the Commander of the Army was invited to launch those new applications which would usher in a new chapter of IT communication. Afterwards, two cyber security demonstrations provided valuable knowledge on cyber security threats, coupled with the launch of a new cyber security quiz website. At the same time, the newly-designed monthly Cyber Security e Bulletin (Saibar Thorathuru) was launched.

During the same occasion, Mr Indika De Zoysa, the Chairman of Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), as the day’s guest speaker shared glimpses on the ‘Digiecon 2030’, the country’s IT Road Map that corresponds to the ‘Digiecon 2030’. The Army IT Road Map 2030 was then introduced and printed copies were distributed among the invitees.

Afterwards, the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to Mr Indika De Zoysa in appreciation of his contribution. In addition, 27 Officers of the Directorate of IT were also appreciated for their contribution by presenting tokens of appreciation and certificates by the Army Chief.

Towards the end, the Chief Signal Officer presented a special memento to the Army Chief appreciating his presence and guidance given during designing the successful IT applications. Soon after, Brigadier H.D.J.P Weerathunga, Director of Directorate of IT delivered the vote of thanks. A group photograph of the invitees and Officers of the Directorate of the IT brought the day’s agenda to culmination.

Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff of the Army, Principal Staff Officers, Directors, Senior Officers and Officers also witnessed the day's ‘Finger Swift 2023’ launching programme.
