Differently-able War Heroes Showcase Their Skills in ‘Shilpa Abhimani - 2017’

43 differently-able War Heroes of the Army showcased their collective and creative conscience of our traditional and contemporary handicraft performances at the ‘Shilpa Abhimani - 2017’ exhibition, the apex event of the National Crafts Council (NCC) that got underway during 4 - 8 October at BMICH ‘Nugasewana’ Hall.

The participation of Army personnel in the event was coordinated by the Director, Directorate of Rehabilitation, Brigadier Shantha Thirunaukarisu in coordination with the Ranaviru Resource Centre (RRC) of the Army.

Demonstration of craft-making workshops on design and marketing, interactive buyer-seller meets, were among added features in the event.

There were 6 hand craft items, made from clay, cane, bamboo, Palmyrah and artificial flowers produced by Army personnel for display.

At this National Handicrafts Exhibition, 54 fields of handicraft classified under 20 basic sections were represented. In addition, financial awards and certificates for the first, second and third places were given for best ones by organizers.

Hon. Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Minister of Sustainable Development, Wildlife and Buddhasasana as the Chief Guest, Mrs Rosy Senanayake, former Parliamentarian and Brigadier Shantha Thirunaukarisu, Director, Directorate of Rehabilitation of the Army representing the Commander of the Army were among those who took part in the prize awarding ceremony.
