Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP, the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), paid a courtesy visit to the 9th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (9(V) SLLI) on 4th October 2024, a place where he began his career as a budding Officer.
Upon his arrival at the 9(V) SLLI in Jaffna, Major General Sisira Kumara RSP was warmly received by Lieutenant Colonel H.R.W.R. Kumara, the Commanding Officer of 9(V) SLLI. In honour of the Senior Officer’s visit, the troops of the battalion presented an elite Guard Turnout.
During the visit, the Deputy Commandant was introduced to the Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers of the battalion, and he marked the occasion by planting a sapling on the premises.
A group photograph was taken with the Officers and Other Ranks, commemorating the special event.
In his address to the troops, Major General Sisira Kumara RSP, expressed his gratitude to the Commanding Officer, 9 (V) SLLI for the warm reception. He also conveyed his pride in returning to his mother unit while holding the highest rank as a volunteer Officer. Further, he encouraged the Officers to strive for excellence in their careers with dedication and untiring effort.
The visit concluded with a camp tour where the Senior Officer was presented with a plaque as a token of appreciation for his visit.
