Defence Services College to Get New Hostel Complex

The cornerstone-laying ceremony of the proposed new Hostel Complex at the Defence Services College (DSC) in Colombo 02 was held on Friday (6) morning amid religious blessings.

State Minister of Defence, Hon. Ruwan Wijewardana (MP) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the DSC and the Ministry of Defence. Secretary Defence, Eng Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary to Ministry of Defence Mr S Hettiarachchi, Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force, Adjutant General of the Army, senior tri-service officers, officials of the Ministry of Education, Principal, DSC and a gathering of teachers and students attended the brief occasion.

The proposed 4-storied Hostel Complex is able to accommodate 554 students and the construction is to be completed at a cost of Rs 603 million in early 2018, according to the project managers. 6 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) of the Army has been assigned the task of constructing the building with expert assistance of the private sector.

As the auspicious minute struck, the Chief Guest, together with invitees and distinguished guests laid foundation stones amid blessings of Buddhist monks who went on reciting Seth Pirith.

A bevy of girls welcomed the Chief Guest on arrival at the premises by offering sheaves of betel before the guests were ushered to the venue in procession.
