Defence Security reviews resettlement schemes in Wanni

Defence Secretary Austin Fernando, during a recent visit to Vavuniya on 14 September 2002 inspected and reviewed security arrangements in the area and took part in a three-hour long meeting at Vavuniya's Divisional Secretariat, summoned to explore possibilities for resettlement and rehabilitation of the displaced and refugees who are now settled elsewhere due to the conflict in the northeast of the country.

This specially organized meeting, attended by Divisional Secretary for Wanni, four Divisional Secretaries from Vavuniya and Mannar, four Members of Parliament from northeast, Area Commanders in Wanni and Mannar, representatives of eight Non Governmental Organizations, three representatives from LTTE and several other prominent personnel discussed extensively how these affected people could be resettled in their original places of residence after providing adequate security to the re-settlers.
