General G.D.H Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc Mphil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence together with Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, visited the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force personnel, injured during a freefall jump of the upcoming 76th Independence Day parade rehearsals.
Accordingly, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Commander of the Army first visited the injured Air Force personnel undergoing medical treatments. Subsequently, both officials proceeded to the Army Hospital, Colombo.
Expressing the deep concern over the injured personnel, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence conveyed his profound concern and inquired about their recovery in progress, stressing the significance of offering them the utmost quality of medical care to facilitate a speedy recovery.
Paratroopers from both the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force, were injured during the rehearsals of the National Independence Day celebrations at Galle Face Green on 30 January 2024.
