DCOS Makes Courtesy Visit to His Mother Regiment

The newly-appointed Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana upon his assumption of new office at the Army Headquarters made his first courtesy visit to his mother regiment, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Headquarters at Boyagane on Friday (27).

He is also the first Deputy Chief of Staff, produced by the VIR. The Centre Commandant VIR, Brigadier Srinath Ariyasinghe warmly welcomed Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana on arrival and invited him to review the Guard Turn Out at the main entrance.

Soon after the welcome, Major General Kariyakarawana saluted the memory of fallen VIR War Heroes at the monument in the premises after laying a wreath.

Afterwards, a Guard of Honour salute at the parade ground honoured him in accordance with military traditions.

Officers and Other Ranks also interacted with the visiting Deputy Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment, VIR during an All Rank tea arrangement at the Other Ranks’ Mess towards the end of the ceremony.

The newly-appointed DCOS planted a sapling in the Regiment premises to mark his visit.

A few minutes later, he addressed the troops and extended his sincere gratitude to all past and present senior officers, other officers and the soldiers of the VIR for paving way for his today’s success which was filled with many moments of hardships, challenges and happy moments, too.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the VIR extended their best wishes to the new Deputy Chief of Staff.
