SRI Sugathi Gamini Association at Mettarama Temple, Bambalapitiya was the latest to offer scholarships to the children of departed War Heroes due to terrorist attacks. The ceremony was held at the temple premises on 4th September 2009, Binara Poya day.
Twenty children from Army families 15 children from sailor families and 15 children from Air Force families whose breadwinners have made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the country were among the recipients.
Each scholarship recipient received a cheque to the value of Rs.4000/= and a bag of school equipment and accessories during the event. They are entitled to receive Rs.1000/= each month until they complete their school education.
The ceremony was headed by Ven. Ranne Dhammanandha Thero, chief incumbent at Mettharama Vihara with the participation of Ven. Pelane Mahinda Thero, President, Sri Sugathi Gamini Society Mr. Pali Wijerathna, its Secretary Mr. Jayantha B. Samarakoon, its treasurer Mr. Indra Hemachandra Lt. Colonel Kumuduni Weerasekara (Retd) and other active members of the Dayaka Sabha attended.
A special Pooja to transfer merits was also held the same day evening. Several Seva Vanitha members were also present on the occasion.
