Cultivable Lands at SFHQ-MLT Released to Legitimate Owners

Release of Army held cultivable lands and adjoining paddy fields in the Sri Lanka Air Force camp of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) to legitimate owners for re-cultivation, took place in a brief ceremony on the banks of Vavaddikulam lake on Thursday (18).

Under this programme, 93 acres of paddy fields in Vavaddikulam among 24 owners, 79 more acres of paddy field among 36 owners in Jangankulam and 28.5 acres among 10 owners were released, together with their original documents, enabling all of them to re-begin cultivation work in the general areas that come under the SFHQ-MLT.

Soon after the release, tilling and ploughing of those lands symbolically began in the presence of Major General Jagath Dias, Commander, SFHQ-MLT. The programme was implemented to be in parallel with the government’s policy of releasing private lands which have been used by Security Forces in the North and the East back to their rightful owners.

The Army also offered its support for preparation of the soil by making heavy machinery available to those farming civilians on the same occasion. The brief ceremony for release of those lands took place on the banks of Vavaddikulam, headed by District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Commander, SFHQ-MLT, General Officer Commanding 59 Division, senior officers and a large gathering of civilians.

Facilitation of re-cultivations in those Security Force Headquarters-held areas was another move of the Army to assist the general public for revival of their way of living.
