CR Regimental HQ Moves into New Office Complex inside its Compound

The Commando Regiment (CR) Regimental Headquarters at Ganemulla this morning (19) proudly inaugurated its new two-storied administrative building complex in the compound during a brief ceremony.

General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence graced the inaugural warming as the Chief Guest, together with General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army.

Major General A.K.G.K.U Gnanarathne ndc psc, Colonel of the Regiment, CR with Brigadier B.M.S.K.K Dharmawardena RWP RSP USP, Centre Commandant, CR welcomed the day’s distinguished guests in front of the new office complex after a Guard Turnout saluted the day’s Chief Guest.

The day’s agenda afterwards invited the Chief Guest to inaugurate the RHQ complex by unveiling the special plaque and cutting a ribbon amidst ‘Seth Pirith’ chanting of the Maha Sangha.

Thereafter, distinguished invitees had a close look visiting every section of the office complex and inquired into its different administrative functions at the Regimental HQ. The new complex remained a long-felt need in the Commando Regiment.

Next, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, General Shavendra Silva and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage were invited to plant saplings right in front of the new office complex and add memories. Likewise, group photographs and signing of the Commando Regiment HQ visitors’ book added more importance to the day’s event.

Major General A.K.G.K.U Gnanarathne ndc psc at the end of the day’s proceedings presented special mementos to the invitees, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army. The gesture was reciprocated.

Senior Officers including, Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff, Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the ceremonial opening ceremony.
