On information received by 4 Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) troops under the Security Force Headquarters Kilinochchi along with Kilinochchi Policemen apprehended a civilian carrying counterfeit notes, worth about Rs 8 lakhs and fifteen thousand (Rs 815,000.00) from the general area of Shanthipuram, Kilinochchi, on Monday (3).
Information confirmed that the suspect along with another friend has tried to purchase some goods from a shop in Shanthipuram using those counterfeits but the shopkeeper on suspicion had contacted the nearby 4 MIC troops. Troops along with Policemen swiftly acted and took him into custody with fake notes.
Kilinochchi Police are conducting further investigations.
As per directions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and under close supervision of the Commander Security Forces Kilinochchi Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, troops serving the area throw their full weight behind the government's all-out war against anti-social acts, narcotics, drugs, illicit liquor, sand mining and smuggling of contraband.
