
By Wednesday (21), more than 22 foreign delegates have confirmed their participation in the sessions, in addition to the participation of India-based Defence Attachés, Sri Lanka-based diplomats and Defence Attachés. Similarly, more than eight guest speakers representing China, Bangladesh, India, Germany, Pakistan and Vietnam have assured their contribution to the seminar.
President’s Secretary Mr Lalith Weeratunge, Minister of External Affairs, Prof G.L Peiris, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, tri-service Commanders are among those billed to share their views at the inaugural ceremony and during three-day long sessions.
This is the third successive ‘Defence Seminar’ organized by the Army with the objective of guaranteeing a lively and thought-provoking deliberations on concerns of national, regional and international importance while enlarging the scope of discourse from post-conflict development and regional stability.
The notion of having a Defence Seminar of this nature every year was the brainchild of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development.
