Chief of Staff (COS) , Sri Lanka Army, Major General G.S.C. Fonseka and Director General, General Staff (DGGS) and Commandant Sri Lanka Volunteer Force Major General N. Mallawarachchi recently visited tsunami devastated areas in Jaffna and met a cross section of troops deployed in the peninsula.
After he was received by Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna Major General S.D. Tennakoon, visiting military chiefs paid a visit to Kankesanthurai jetty and inspected the damages caused to Army warehouse and other places under 515 Brigade.
During their tour, Major General Fonseka spoke to troops at Velvettithurai, Manalkadu, Pothpathi and Nagarkovil after they toured damaged coastal areas and discussed ongoing relief and rehabilitation work.
Meanwhile, Governor for North & East Mr. Tyronne Fernando at a meeting held in Vavuniya District Secretariat appealed to all segments of the civil society to join together to rebuild the nation regardless of ethnicity, religion or any other difference. He also thanked all District and Divisional Secretaries, Armed Forces, Police, Special Task Force (STF) personnel and all others who came forward at short notice to help the tsunami victims.
The Governor was received by Vavuniya District Secretary and Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni Major General P.S.B. Kulatunga.
