The inauguration of the construction of the new shrine (Budu Medura) at the ‘Sandahiru Seya’ Stupa (pagoda) premises, now reaching its completion at the sacred Anuradhapura, took place on Monday (9) at the auspicious minute in the presence of a gathering of Buddhist monks, tri service officers and devotees.
On behalf of the Secretary of Defence Major General (retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni laid the corner-stone for the construction, sponsored by the Na Uyana Aranya Senasana, Most Ven. Agulgamuwe Ariyananda Thero, Chief Incumbent and lay members of the monastery.
‘Sandahiru Seya’ Stupa, a monumental tribute to numerous sacrifices of all War Heroes who won over terrorism at the expense of their precious lives was the brainchild of HE the President when he was holding the office of the Secretary Defence before 2015.
