In a series of significant events aimed at providing support to families in need, the laying of foundation stones for three proposed houses within the areas of 221, 222, and 223 Infantry Brigades transpired in separate ceremonies on 11, 12, and 15 January. The initiative was carried out under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Major General P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc.
The endeavor begins with the troops of 5(V) Sri Lanka Artillery undertaking the construction of a house for Mr. R M Ranjith Wasantha Bandara, a deserving family residing in Thalgaswewa, Agbopura. The cornerstone for this project was laid on 11 January 2024, with financial sponsorship generously provided by Mr. Anuradha Kotalawala.
Subsequently, on 12 January, the troops of 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps embarked on a similar mission, laying the foundation stone for the proposed house of Mr. G.R Chaminda Kumara, a family in need residing in Morawewa. This noble effort received financial support from Mr. U. Anuradha Kothalawala.
Adding to the commendable initiative, on 15 January, the troops of 20 Gajaba Regiment participated in the foundation stone-laying ceremony for Mr. K. Upul Priyantha, another deserving family residing in Sripura. The financial backing for this noble cause came from Mr. Isuru Prabath Kumara.
It is noteworthy that the estimated cost for each house is Rs. 1.35 million, and the anticipated completion of all three houses is within a commendable time-frame of three months.
