Commander's Timely Assistance Enables Maduruoya Students to Emerge Karate Champions

The Army's timely helping hand by facilitating the participation of Maduruoya Alawakumbura Central College students in the Inter-School Karate Championship - 2023 at the last minute enabled school Karate Team to clinch the overall Championship in the tournament, held in Colombo on Saturday (10 June).

As parents of those Karate students of low-income families could not afford to send those competitors to Colombo for participation in the Inter-School Karate Championship -2023 in Colombo at their cost, the Principal at Alawakumbura Central College considering the importance of the request and the skills of his students reached the nearby Maduruoya Army Training School (ATS) and brought the matter to the attention of Commandant, ATS at the eleventh hour who in turn took up the issue with the Commander of the Army at the Army HQ.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army considering the sheer need of those students and their interest in Karate barely 48 hours before the commencement of the Championship in Colombo promptly instructed the ATS Commandant to facilitate their safe travel through an Army bus, accompanied by school authorities and their guardians.

Bringing desired results back home, the Karate Team at Alawakumbura Central College won the overall Championship in the Inter-School Karate Championship - 2023, held at the Auditorium of Colombo Public Library.

The ATS staff on the bus also provided breakfast and water bottles to those students during the journey to Colombo and back home.
