Commander While in Jaffna Exchanges Views with Governor & District Secretary

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army on the sideline of his purpose to attend the cremation of Ven Meegahajandure Gnanarathana Thero, Chief Sanghanayake for Northern Province and Incumbent at Jaffna Sri Naga Viharaya, had two separate courtesy meetings with Hon Reginald Cooray, Governor for Northern Province and Mr N. Vethanayahan, District Secretary for Jaffna on Friday (22).

During the Commander’s meetings with both of them, he exchanged views particularly with regard to the ongoing civil-military cooperation, military assistance in reconciliation projects, progress of land release scheme, Army contribution to construction of houses for remaining Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Jaffna, Army-built hospital and its benefits to the Jaffna people, employment assistance to ex-LTTE combatants, security situation in the North and a few other matters of relevance to community-oriented projects where Army personnel are involved.

In return, both the Governor and the District Secretary spoke high of the professional capabilities of Army Engineers and technical assistance, being offered for projects by the Army in the peninsula and cordial relations, being maintained by the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna.
