Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army made a formal visit to the Maduru Oya Army Training School (ATS) on Friday morning (25 August) and inquired about the progress of their training modules and infrastructure development.
On arrival, a Guard Turnout at the entrance greeted the Army Chief before Brigadier A.B.J.N Ariyathilaka RWP RSP, Commandant, ATS extended a warm welcome to the Commander of the Army who is making his first formal visit after assumption of duties as Commander of the Army.
Commencing the day’s programme, the Chief Guest listened to a comprehensive briefing presented by Colonel M.T.I Gunawardena RSP psc, Commanding Officer, ATS after welcome remarks were delivered by the Commandant at the ‘Wisdom Hall’.
Afterwards, the Commander of the Army watched a ‘Sand Model Briefing’ of the students following the Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare Course - 33 at the Sand Model Room and a ‘Teaching Practice’ presentation of the Young Officers’ Course - 68 B.
After a while, the Army Chief inspected the ongoing infrastructure facilities of the ATS and the new auditorium under construction. The Officer Commanding of those constructions during the visits received guidelines as well from the Commander of the Army.
He also had a look at the Fighting in Build Up Areas (FIBUA) village and witnessed a demonstration, staged by the ATS demonstration team. The Army Chief at ATS was also invited to inaugurate the newly-done Badminton court in the compound before he attended an All Rank tea at the gymnasium.
An exchange of mementoes between the visiting Commander of the Army and the ATS Commandant brought the agenda at ATS to culmination.
The ATS at Maduruoya is one of the main training establishments in the Army with a committed vision to enhance skills and knowledge on tactics, techniques and procedures of Officers and Other Ranks on the whole spectrum of military operations whilst becoming the centre of learning on counter-insurgency and jungle warfare of the Sri Lanka Army.
Major General K.P.S.A Fernando RWP RSP ndu, Director General Infantry, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickremasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Director General General Staff, Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, Security Forces - East, Brigadier K.V.N.P Premarathne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division, Brigadier K.M.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP, General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks also took part in those events.
