Commander Views ITC Training Sessions at Minneriya

The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu on Friday (25 August) undertook a field visit to the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) at Minneriya with a view to receiving updates on weapon training modules for Officers and Other Ranks.

Troops of the ITC warmly welcomed the visiting Commander of the Army on arrival at the entrance by presenting a Guard Turnout salute in accordance with military traditions before Brigadier W.S.K Liyanawaduge RSP, Commandant-ITC received him.

Afterwards, the Commandant presented a comprehensive account of scheduled and ongoing training sessions at the ITC in front of the day’s Chief Guest.

Next, the ITC Commandant invited the Army Chief to inaugurate the newly-established RPG-7 simulator for use of trainees and moved to have a close view of that before he closely observed the existing Motor Simulator Firing at the ITC. After a while, the Commander of the Army was invited to leave memories by planting a sapling inside the camp premises before he had a look at the ITC Weapon Museum.

Subsequently, the Commander of the Army, together with the ITC Commandant had a close look at the training area and interacted with the troops under training by exchanging a few words.

Before his exit, the Commander of the Army penned down some thoughts in the ITC visitors' book.

Major General K.P.S.A Fernando RWP RSP ndu, Director General Infantry, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickremasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Director General General Staff, Major General M.W.T.C Mettananda USP ndc, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - East, Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, Security Forces - East, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were also associated with the visit.
