Commander in a Surprise Move Interacts with Graduate Trainees in GR RHQ Complex

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army currently in Anuradhapura in connection with the 71st Army Anniversary religious ceremonies, concerned about the well-being of graduates under the 21 day-long Army orientation training in 'Leadership & Motivation' at Gajaba Regiment (GR) Training Centre at GR Regimental HQ (RHQ) premises at Saliyapura this morning (30) made a point of interacting with them freely and directly in an attempt to receive feedbacks from them about ongoing training modules.

The Army orientation-training programme for 50,000 graduates, recruited to the public sector in line with HE the President’s ‘Saubhagayaye Dekma’ (Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour) policy statement and on HE's directions to the Army began under phases on 14 September in 51 island-wide Army Centers including, Security Force HQs, Regimental HQs and Training Schools, consequent upon guidance given by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army. A batch of 418 graduates are now undergoing training at Saliyapura GR Training Centre.

During his interactions with trainees, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva inquired into their well-being, facilities, evaluation of the course and assured them of further improvement to the project infrastructure facilities while expanding possibilities for more spacious accommodation, welfare, medical and other administrative needs. He also requested them to convey their experiences in the training to others once they move out after training.

The 1st Phase of the 21 day-long training, now nearing culmination in all island-wide Army centres has been proved a great success before the Army undertakes the 2nd phase of 10,000 more after a few days early in October 2020.

The purpose of this one - month long residential programme, implemented under five phases absorbs 10,000 graduates for each phase to cover all 50,000 graduates within five months. It is implemented together with the Directorate of Training in order to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes of those recruited graduates to ensure the effective contribution to nation-building as a trained, fully-fledged and energetic workforce under themes such as 'Leadership and Team-Building Training’, ‘Management Training’, ‘Training in Private and State sector Establishments’, ‘Project work and Field studies’, ‘Cohesiveness and Resilience,’ etc, The project is to be closely monitored by the Ministry of Defence and coordinated and supervised at all seven Security Force HQs level.
