The first leg of the Palmyra Challenge Trophy Cricket Encounter between Jaffna Geniuses Vs Kilinochchi Geniuses took place at the Central College Ground in Kilinochchi on 23 June 2024. This event was organized to mark the 28th anniversary of Headquarters, Security Forces (Jaffna) together with the District Secretary of Jaffna and the District Secretary of Kilinochchi. The aim of the event was to promote a sense of comradeship within the community.
Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The match, held at the Central College Ground in Kilinochchi, was a testimony to the collaborative efforts of Government Agents and officials in fostering community spirit.
The cricket teams are composed from the heads of government departments, Tri-Forces, Police, the Special Task Force, and community leaders with the aim to promote harmony between the government authorities, military and civil communities in Jaffna and Kilinochchi.
Kilinochchi Geniuses Team won the first encounter of cricket match and the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) and General Officers Commanding of 51 Infantry Division, 52 Infantry Division, and 55 Infantry Division awarded the prizes and ‘Palmyra Club Challenge Trophy’ to the winners. The second leg of the cricket encounter will be anticipated to be held at Jaffna in due course.
A large number of the military and civil community participated in witnessing the match enthusiastically. The event culminated with a buffet lunch organized by the 55 Infantry Division at the Liberation Hub in Kilinochchi.
