Commander Reviews Progress Made in Many Fronts in the Past Few Months

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army during a visit to the Security Force Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Monday (24), enlightened a gathering of more than 350 officers on multifaceted new Army projects and a series of other measures that have been adopted in the past few months after he took office.

In his near one-hour long address, he spelt out how different actors both at regional and international arenas are burning midnight oil to negate the onward march of our nation after elimination of terrorism and disturb peace dividends prevailing in the country.

In the light of increasing attempts by different interested parties, the need to sustain vigilance and surveillance while engaged in security work in respective areas of service, was underlined by the visiting Commander during the address.

Enhancement of the number of professional courses, Appointment of the best of officers as commanding officers, proposed establishment of Central Recruitment Training Centre, establishment of Jungle Training Centre, Diving School in Mullaittivu, Improvement of infrastructure and ARTRAC programmes with its affiliated wings, upgrading of Peace Keeping Operation Institute, Production of the weekly E-bulletin with media clips, Launch of new catering training systems in food distribution for other ranks, are among a few projects that have been implemented, the Commander pointed out.

The Commander also explained how various agricultural, development, welfare bus services, grant of loans, property loans, health insurance schemes, meditation courses, construction of pre-fabricated billets, emission control programme for Army vehicles, introduction of common building architecture for Battalions, Brigades, Divisions, etc, award of cash gifts to Army sportsmen for their skills, have also been introduced to the Army in the past few months.

The Commander further instructed all officers present to pay the maximum attention to accommodation, food, personal grievances and requirements of the other ranks serving under the officers.

He also described the series of intended projects to be launched in the near future, including the opening of the new Military Hospital at Narahenpita, new ‘Abimansala – 3’ at Pangolla, reception halls, facility complexes, etc.

The Commander at the same time invited all officers to propose new concepts and novel approaches to the promotion of the image of the Army and various other programmes that could be introduced to the Army training sphere.

The visiting Commander during the visit opened the new ‘Harmony Tennis Court’ and the ‘Harmony Squash Court’ open for public  at the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi premises at the invitation of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, SFHQ – KLN. Both these courts are open to Kilinochchi students on request.

A group of students, interested in those games accorded a warm welcome to the Chief Guest when he arrived there to open both Tennis and Squash Courts on Monday (24).

Commander on arrival in accordance with military formalities received the salute of the Guard Turnout and the Guard of Honour, presented by troops at the SFHQ – KLN parade ground.
